1965 Thunderbird with incorrect VIN stamp

Registry Number 64708 is a 1965 Thunderbird Special Landau 5Y87Z146140. The owner reports that the VIN stamp under the hood is that of a different car,  5Y87Z146172 ….however such a car was never built, the actual last six is that of a Hardtop 5Y83Z146172.

There’s nothing funny going on here, it was a legitimate mistake at the assembly plant. The Hardtop happened to be registered back in 2013 and is Registry Number 45206. I wonder what is stamped under the hood of that car. The Registry has the gate release invoices posted for both cars on their respective data sheets.

Find Thunderbirds For The Registry

Would you like to help the Registry grow by submitting info on Thunderbirds?

Almost 35,000 Thunderbirds are in the Registry because they were noticed on-line or in person by one of the “spotters”.

Every Thunderbird can be registered even if it no longer exists or you don’t know if it exists.

If you would like to be a spotter for the Registry please use the Thunderbird Registry Home link and then choose About>Contact, and send me an email. Spotters can contribute articles to this blog, too.

1955-2005 Thunderbird Registration Requirements

All Thunderbirds can be part of the Registry. There is no requirement for year, condition, or location… or even if you still own it.

Cars can be registered based on an old title, insurance card, or sales invoice. If you haunt scrapyards you can take pictures of VIN plates and stickers. Every Thunderbird regardless of its present-day status is important to the Registry and helps to ‘fill in the blanks’ of information.
