Joe Culin says: This 1956 Thunderbird has been in the Upstate of South Carolina since it was originally sold by Satcher Ford in Johnston, South Carolina. A noise violation warning dated from 1956 given to Gloria (the driver not the owner) in Greenville, SC was in the owner's manual in the glove box when I bought it in 1999. The second owner, Betty Sue, chose it over college tuition in 1958. Her twin brother chose Clemson College tuition. She's told me that she and some girlfriends hit a cow in it while "cruzing to impress boys" in 1959. The third owner is a mystery. The only thing I know is that he was shot and killed in a poker game and his wife sold the car to the owner before me. The fourth owner converted it from green to black in the early 1970's. It needs to be painted so it will go back to green sometime in the future. I'm the fifth owner and use it as a weekend driver. It is currently black with a white soft top (no hard top). The interior is black and white and it has road lamps in place of the front bumperettes, although the interior switch is missing. - - - - - - - - UPDATE August 2020, Joe says: We've owned this car since 1998 and began a frame-on restoration in 2015. In the restoration we removed the drive train and sent the body and frame off to be painted. We are taking it back to its original 1956 green. A previous owner had painted it black sometime in the 70's and that paint was in very poor shape. All suspension bushings have been replaced. The engine was running well so we've only replaced the seals at this time and painted the engine. We've had the transmission and rear checked out at a local shop and they are ready to go. We are ready to install the air ducts under the fenders, then will finish up the window mechanisms in the doors and reinstall all of the glass. Once that is complete, the drive train will go back in, then a new wiring harness and brakes. Hopefully, by May 2021 we'll have it on the road for Thunderbird Appretiation Day!
