Gene Cox says: I first saw my 1956 Thunderbird and tried to buy it in 1975 for $5,000. The owner wanted $7,500 and said no. Later that year this car was purchased unrestored in 1975 by my Uncle, Gene Cox for $5,300. He had portholes installed in the hard top. Then he sold the car to my father, Jack Cox, in 1977. My dad restored the car and kept it till 1979, at which time he also owned a 1957 Thunderbird. He gave me the car for Christmas in 1979 and I drove it for 20,000 miles until 2003 and decided to do another restoration. I put a 312 engine back in it, new interior and paint, disc brakes and air conditioning. I added headers and aluminum intake and a Holley carb to the engine.
Bill Mann saw this 1956 Thunderbird at Birds on the Wharf in Santa Cruz, California in October, 2004. Car is white with black and white interior and a black soft top. It has power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, Fordomatic, and an alterantor. The licence plate reads GENE56.
