Susan Allen says:My father bought this Thunderbird new in spring 1956. I've had it since December 1979. My 2 sisters and I used to tell him it was the only thing we'd fight over when he died! Long before he died he decided to sell it, and my sisters were both living in cold-weather areas and didn't have garages, so my California home got the T-bird. - - - - -
In the mid-60's Dad painted it gold, but kept the red/white interior. In 1974 he repainted it gold and also got gold upolstery, dashboard, etc. At the same time he put in a 1957 engine. In 1984-5 we restored it to white with red/white interior, but used the 1955 red because it's a prettier color. Partly out of driving practicality and partly out of the 1957 engine, we knew there was no point in trying to restore it to show quality. Pete Grey did the restoration. I drive it about 1,000 miles per year, mostly in the summer because it leaks so badly in the rain. I have both hard-top and soft-top, but rarely use the soft-top. It is used for the Gunn High School Homecoming parade every year since 1989, and in 2003 our son was Homecoming King! ---------- ---------- Bill Mann, Thunderbird Spotter, originally submitted this registration in December, 2003:This is a 1956 Thunderbird. It is white with a red and white interior and a white soft top. It has Fordomatic, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat, fender skirts, and engine dress-up kit.
