Darlene Grace reports that she owned this 1957 Thunderbird from April 1, 1978 until she sold it sometime in 1988. It is Flame Red with a white interior and was scheduled for production on January 16, 1957. When new it was in the Charlotte/Greensboro, North Carolina area - sold by Greensboro Motor Company, 315 North Elm Street, Greensboro. It then changed hands a few times in a series of private owners (once repossessed) and dealers. It also spent considerable time in Pennsylvania. She says that it was last known to be in the area of Lake Pontchartrain Boulevard in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Darlene says: I was the one (at age 22---my father was furious that I paid $5K for an "old" car and would not speak to me for about a week) who finally restored it, driven for the first time on April 1,1983 exactly 5 years to the day I first bought it. It then enjoyed several years on the road to car shows, car club events with the Antique Automobile Club (AACA) and the Delaware Valley Chapter of CTCI. We traveled to places such as Watchung, NJ, Dearborn, MI (Thunderbird National Meet at Hyatt Regency July 17 to 21, 1984), and an AACA Meet in Virginia, where to my surprise it was recognized by some guys as the original Greensboro, N.C. owner's car! After we all got to talking about our individual cars' histories, they knew the first owner it turned out. I had a lot of fun with this car but at that particular time, it was time to move on. The next owners responded to my ad in Hemmings and bought the car. They flew in and back but car was sent to them via Horseless Carriage Transport. . They loved it at first sight. By then I also owned an '57 Inca Gold E-Bird and a '63 Mercury Monterey S-55 Breezeway and my '59 Thunderbird convertible. UPDATE December 2015, it was listed on vinleaks.com as having been for sale in December, 2015.
