This 1957 Thunderbird was spotted at the CTCI convention in Springfield, Missouri on July 4, 2014. UPDATE December 2014, Dennis Dole reports it will be offered at the 2015 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction (Lot #5104). One of the rarest of all 1957 Ford Thunderbirds is the 1957 Phase One D/F Factory Supercharged. One of 15 hand-built for Ford Competition at Ford Headquarters, one of eight known to survive today. McNamara at Ford proposed an initial production Phase One D/F Supercharged Thunderbird and Ford Customs to meet NASCAR homologation requirements and targeted Daytona Beach Speed Trials scheduled to begin on February 3, 1957, for their competition debut. Thus was born the Ford Motor Company Supercharger Program. All Phase One D/F Supercharged Fords were hand-built with a production date of January 25, 1957. Equipped as original with McCullough VR57 Phase One Supercharged system. Heavy duty BorgWarner 3-speed racing transmission and Ford factory seat belts. This racing formula proved itself at Daytona where one 1957 Phase One Thunderbird set a new record for American sports cars with a speed of 138.775mph, a 6mph improvement over the previous year's record set by Corvette. Originally sold in Southern California and remained there until professional restoration. This Minter Restoration scored 300 points of 300 points at Classic Thunderbird Club International National Concours 2014. - - - - UPDATE Dennis Dole reports it was a no sale at 2015 B-J Scottsdale.
