This 1957 Thunderbird was documented in the May-June 1990 issue of Early Bird magazine. This red '57 was purchased new in late 1957 by Robert R. (Bob) Woolley of Deming, New Mexico from Casa Ford in El Paso, Texas. This was the third new '57 that he had purchased off the showroom floor from Casa Ford. The first was Flame Red with manual transmission (totaled in an accident) and the second was a Coral Sand with a Fordomatic (he needed an automatic due to broken arm from the accident). But, he wasn't happy with the automatic and traded it in for this new red '57 with manual transmission and overdrive. In 1966 he replaced the 312 with a new 289 cu in/271 hp high performance engine that was purchased from Carroll Shelby. In 1974 he replaced the 289 with a 1970 Holman & Moody Boss 302 racing engine. In the '80s Bob repainted the car in Candy Apple Red and installed A/C and Kelsey Hayes wire wheels. Mr. Woolley died in 1989 and passed the car on to his nephew, MSgt Joe M. Gardner, USAF, (Retired), also of Deming, New Mexico. A picture of the car is shown on page 34 of the May-June 1990 issue of Early Bird magazine.
