Joe Ryan says: I sold my Bronze 1957 Thunderbird in May, 2000 and was looking for another '57. I told my wife that I was going to take my time while looking for another one. A member of our club, the Santa Clara Valley Thunderbirds, knew of a white '57 that was for sale by an inactive member of our club. He had owned the car for 20 years and had only put 20k miles on it. I have always like the body style of the '57 but I also like the looks of the continental kit but not the after market version that extends the bumper. When I saw the car with its custom continental kit I knew I had to have this car. We made a deal and 4 weeks after selling my first T-Bird I was the proud owner of another one. My wife said 'I thought you were going to take your time?'
It is an 'E' Tbird but has been converted to a 'D' setup. The car also has Kelsy-Hayes wire wheels. The car only had a hard top but I had kept my soft top from my previous Thunderbird. It turns out that the owner had purchased the car from another club member in 1979 who was a mechanic who added power steering and power brakes and did the 'D' conversion. I talked with him and he thinks the mileage on the car is original, which at the time was 69k when he sold it. That member had purchased the car from San Jose Ford where it belonged to the owner's wife. That's where the trail ends. The car was originally sent to the Charlotte, North Carolina district in 1957. -----The car is driven about 3,000 miles a year and is used for parades, homecomings, display and lots of other club functions. The car has won several people's choice awards as well as 3rd Place, Touring Class, at the CTCI Regional Convention in Reno in 2001.
