Edsel Orton says: I acquired my 1958 Thunderbird Hardtop in 1965. My wife used it in drag racing for a number of years. It was said to be a NASCAR Bird due to suspension and height from ground. eight shocks, factory traction bars. I am in the process of putting the original 352 back in and removing 427 sideoiler. It handles like a true sports car, it corners like one and is almost ridgid as far as suspension. It was a Corvette eater in the 60s as it had a 427 sleeper in it, dressed as a 352. In 1965 there was a dragstrip in Tipton City, Tennessee out from Memphis called Halls. My wife was running G H and I stock automatic classes I was running D modified production with a 1957 Ford Convertible. Chuck Hamilton pulled his A-modified Sports 65 427 Corvette with ISKY Roller etc. She did not know he was next to her in the time trials , they took off and she beat him 1/2 a car length in the quarter turning in the 12s. He put his Corvette back on the trailer and said if a I stock beat him what would happen in his class. Those were the good old days. We are going to restore the whole car.
