This is a 1958 Thunderbird Convertible that was scheduled for production on August 8, 1958. According to Bill Van Ess, this Thunderbird had a 430-cubic inch V-8 engine, even though the VIN clearly states "H", and according to Ford Motor Company, no 1958 Thunderbirds were built with a 430-cubic inch V-8 engine. Bill explains that this car was an engineering prototype and had the 430 engine installed after the car came off the assembly line. The present status of RN 1393 is unknown. UPDATE, this Thunderbird has been documented by Conny Soderholm, the owner, who lives in Sweden. He says he found it in California and it now resides in Sweden. It has 38,000 miles and is rust-free. He is in the process of restoring it. This Thunderbird has ben documented in William Wonder's book "Thunderbird Restoration Guide 1958-1966" on page 27.
