This 1959 Thunderbird Convertible resides in Switzerland. Owner Peter Baumgartner says: I bought it 1983 from a dealer here in Switzerland. It looked very nice, excactly the way it looks now. It must have been restored in the States. But it was a blender and I had to start all over again.
I'm the first owner after it left the States. Then I had a few nice years with cruising and going to car shows with my buddy Urs Grossmann, who owns a 1960 Thunderbird. You In 1986 I left with my wife for Cape Coral, FL, where we lived and did business until November 2004. I was very successful with my Thunderbird in car shows all over Southwest Florida. When my wife got very seriously ill, we returned to Switzerland where she passed on Christmas of 2007. Thats when I lost the pleasure of driving. From then on the car just standing in a garage of a abandoned house for some time. When I went there in February of 2017, I almost got a heart attack. When I opened the garage door, I saw water running from the ceiling and the soaked ceiling collapsed on the open car. A pipe did burst because of freezing and I dont now for how long the water was pouring in the car. The damage was very bad. That made me so frustrated and I needed to decide to just get rid of it or having enough energy and money to restore it a second time. After a few sleepless nights I came to the decision not to give up on her, not after such a long time. And now, after working on her for 4 years, I got her on the street again and she looks like coming from the dealers showroom. I'm so glad and proud that I had the will power to give her a second life. This summer I went to the first shows in almost 25 years. My pleasure is back and I will keep her in the family. The colour has been changed from Platinum to red, very good paint job, no traces of Platinum left. It has a roadster tonneau, the top is fully retractable, it has SelectAire, and power everything. I did none of these changes, I bought it this way and I love the red paint, which looks without any doubts very hot on this convertible, for sure nicer than Platinum.
