Moe Alderman says his mother bought this 1959 Thunderbird new. He says restoration was started in the 1980s but was stopped shortly after. He plans to restore it in the near future. Picture added, 9/14. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - UPDATE January 2015, Surfsiders notified the Registry that they own this car. They say this: Recent purchase from son of original owner in Spokane, WA. Vehicle was a basket case as original owner died before a complete restoration could be completed. Original owner Son did not have the means to finish the torn down vehicle. Plans are to total restoration as new condition, numbers matching.
430 engine is now in the machine shop for a complete overhaul all new everything except the block and manifolds, tin, etc.bored .040 over and 1 sleeved cylinder. The interior was red leather and that is what will be installed in the restoration as well as all new seat foams and materials. This is a 430 J code convertible with power steering, power brakes, and has never been in a major wreck. The body was in a fair state of primer and had been worked back in the 1980's in a body shop when the owner became ill and stopped the work. There has never been any rust out repairs done anywhere as the body is solid as new inside and out. The odometer says 107,000 which I feel is accurate, titled as EXEMPT. A total refinish with PPG base clear coat in Brandywine Red. The vehicle will be for sale when completed in a few months. I will most likely go with a white convertible top. The interior is solid red leather with red carpet. I have been a body and paint man and restorer/hot rodder since 1965 and will complete this restoration at a reasonable pace. Any future buyers ….it is available for pre restoration sale. Price is always negotiable.
