John Barham says: My family came to own this 1960 Thunderbird in 1974 from the original owner. He was dying of cancer and wanted to see her go to a good home. She has been parked at my parents ever since. In 1998 I received a phone call from my mother informing me to "come get the car or they were going to sell it." Ah...the moment I had been waiting for all my life...
I have stripped her from the ground up since then. All I have left to do is get her to the upholstery shop. She is a rare 3-speed on the column, but just how rare is that? I have been told that in the 1960 Daytona 500 they raced the three speeds and that there were limited production number of those. By looking at the information I provided of the data decoder plate you can see that she was born in July of 1960 at the Wixom Plant and was lucky lady #77,670 out of the some 92,798 made - but just how many of those are three-speeds? I have tried to find out just how rare she is but not having any luck. She is more then driveable now. But I only have one seat as the upholstery man has the rest of the inside and awaiting his time and the 7 pot metal pieces that are in Virginia getting re-plated. I should have her completed in late spring. On my local cruises that I take trying to make sure all seals and leaks are plugged, I get bombarded with people who stop me and want to know.. What kind of car is that? Is it for sale? or How much is that car worth? The first thing I have to tell them is the car is not and will never be for sale. But I am almost at a point where I need to get her appraised for insurance purposes and I was just wondering since it was a three-speed if it brought a more fairer price? ----------
