Mike Thome says: I purchased my 1960 Thunderbird Convertible in February, 2003, and started a major restoration. I discovered a false VIN near the end of the restoration process and reported it to the Washington State Patrol late in 2004. They were able to "lift" the original VIN in early 2005. The car was stolen in 1989 and hidden in a barn in eastern Washington. I had responded to a classifed ad and purchased it, evidently from the guy who stole it! I just finished settling with the previous lien holders, and the car is now in my name.
