Mark adds this story: ---------- I am the 2nd owner of this 61 Bird, I rescued this car form the crusher after it was discovered under a tarp in a garage after 27 years. It has 65,000 original miles and when found was totally unmolested including the original owners manual, jack and spare tire.,The original owner became Ill around 1980 and the car was only driven less than 200 miles by his family till his death in 1984, After he passed his widow could not bear to sell the car so they put it in the garage and locked the door. The garage was not opened again until February of 2007 by a general contractor that is a good friend of one of my customers named Doug.he called me and asked if I would be interested in and old Ford for free. ------------ He said Doug says your into old cars come and check it out and if you like just have it towed away as the garage and the house are planned to be leveled in 2 weeks.So all the car cost me was 150.00 for a flatbed.Naturally I replaced the exhaust, brakes, carburetor, fuel pump, gas tank rebuilt the transmission, Tires,I recently finished the interior and changed it to a 2 tone red and white combination still retaining the original door panels, carpets, visors,and head liner,After flushing the block and all fluids she received a full tune up new battery and fired right up she is a great cruiser and runs like a top.We still have a ways to go planning on doing paint before December comes in then right back into the garage for the long winter sleep. As my father always said"never look at a car for what it is ,look at it for what it could be ! "..-------------- This Thunderbird entered the Registry on August 14, 2005: (Former owner) Anthony Kolanjian of Farmingdale, NY says: I am the second owner of my 1961 Thunderbird. It is white with the original red interior. It has low mileage and has been garaged. It has power steering, power brakes, and power windows. - - - - - - UPDATE September 2017, New York State DMV registration is current. UPDATE December 2017, it is for sale in Sherman, Texas and is now red.
