Don Krasniak says: This 1961 Thunderbird Hardtop was purchased by me on 4/26/04. This car has been undergoing an amatuer restoration by the last 4 owners. Finally it has found the right owner. It has been repainted twice in turquoise. The last repaint is in a more beautiful turquoise metallic which closely matches the original colored metallic turquoise interior. The paint code shows it was white over turquoise. The interior has been restitched by with excellent vinyl material that has a nice metallic sheen. It looks great but is lacking the details that will bring it up a notch. - - - - - - - - My plans for the car are that I will upgrade the finish with new seals on the bumpers, some weatherstripping (much of it is good original condition with slight drying/cracking), a repaint of the door jams, under hood, under trunk as this was done too hurriedly with lack of surface prep. Second, I am replacing the ridiculous glass-pack muffler system with stock replacement pieces. And, finally, as it did not originally come with air conditioning, I am in the process of retrofitting an original air conditioning system (whoa is it lots of work) because in Southern California, air conditioning is a necessity. [If anyone knows where I could find the dash aluminum for an original A/C car, this could help me along.] - - - - - - - - - - I had in mind that I may return it to the original white color, but after a week of looking at this color, white would be so bland! I think this color is so beautiful that if it wasn't an exact original color for this year bird, it should have been. I am currenly seeking paint chips to see if it was close to an original shade or from a slight year different. It will be fun.
