R. J. Miller says: The 1961 T-Bird was my grandparents first of several Thunderbirds…and my favorite as a child. They bought it new at Paul Cochran Ford in Unionville, MI and drove it home to Bay City, MI. They purchased their next new T-Bird: a 1967 2-door. Sadly they both passed away one right after the other in 2012. While clearing out their home to sell….and my grandfather's dresser, I came across the original window sticker and a set of keys to most every car he and my grandmother ever owned…including the 61’, 67’, and 73” Birds. Then came the Lincolns in 1977. I've made copies of all the window stickers to laminate and preserve while also properly storing the originals. I’ve also held on to the keys…not sure for what yet but I have them. The 1961 Thunderbird was in the best color of "Honey Beige" with the beige interior. It was also the first car in the family with air-conditioning! Sure remember that on hot and humid Michigan summers while sitting directly behind my grandmother “not speaking until spoken to” with both feet firmly planted on the floor and my hands in my lap….for fear of touching anything on the car that could cause my gramps to “clear his throat” in disapproval. Sure wish I could find the 61 'Bird today….in at least restorable condition. However, I'm guessing it ceased to exist somewhere in Michigan several decades ago. (Also see RN 59223)
