This 1962 Thunderbird Hardtop is for sale as a parts car in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. UPDATE October 2020, Jonathan notified the Registry that he owns this Thunderbird.
Jonathan says: The vehicle was "formerly abandoned" and was left to rot in a backyard in Pittsburg since about 2000 (inspection sticker reads 1998). A retired man bought it and parked it in his backyard to restore but never got around to it and after passing, the wife sold the property and left the car there. It's my understanding that the vehicle was dug out of the ground by an excavator in 2019 before being brought to "Joyce Towing" where I purchased the vehicle in October 2020. Before being removed by the towing company, a couple bought the property to flip the house and decided to try and remove the Thunderbird emblems from the car. I never saw this method before but according to a neighbor, the husband took a die grinder and tried to cut out the Thunderbird emblems that were in the roof. He broke one, looks like he may have gotten the other one clean, and the hood emblem, unsurprisingly, is missing. After two attempts at trying to drill out the trunk lid latch emblem, he apparently gave up (and I'm very glad because I needed the trunk lid). Unless there is something I don't know about this car that makes it super valuable, I'm intending to use it as a parts car to further the lives of the rest of the T-Birds that survive. As much as I do not like stripping out an old T-Bird, it seems like the best use of this vehicle. If there is more to know about this car, I would appreciate knowing it, especially if there's an extra reason to try and preserve this model if it's something rare.
