On February 16, 2006 Mike Simonian notified the Registry that he sold his Thunderbird to Ian and Annette Mills of New Zealand in 2005. Mike Simonian says: I purchased my 1963 Thunderbird Hardtop for $1200.00 in 1998 from an auto mechanic at Ghirradeli Square San Francisco. It had custom rims, years of minor dents and scratches, badly faded paint, a ripped up interior, and a powerful but smoky engine. After a minor brush with the guardrail on Highway 1 in 1999, insurance labelled the car "totaled" (even though it was only the front fenders that were pushed in) and I received $4000 which I used to have the bodywork and paint done in the original color. I found two 60's credit cards in the car when I replaced the carpet. The credit cards had the name "Jack Ellis" as well as an address in Menlo Park, CA. One day, out of curiousity, my girlfriend and I drove down to Menlo Park from San Francisco and rang the doorbell at the address on the old credit card. We noticed there was a 1980's model Thunderbird in the driveway! We were amazed when out came old Jack Ellis! He was a little disoriented when we told him we were returning his lost credit cards that we found in our 1963 thunderbird. He said "these are no good anymore!" Finally, we convinced him to check out the car. "I used to have one kind of like this", he said. After about 10 minutes, he put two and two together and realized this was his old car. He then explained that he bought the car new in Half Moon Bay, California. He has always drivenThunderbirds ever since. Overall, he wasn't very excited to see his old car and walked back into his house without taking a second look. We were glad to have met him though. That’s our story.
