Gerald F. and Patricia A. Tobin of Franklin, Wisconsin say: The car was originally sold to a Ralph Burgess (Dorothy C.), 7560 Woodman Place, Van Nuys, California. The dealer was Midway Motors, 200 N. Vermont in Las Angeles, California. The car was delivered on February 8, 1963.<-----
The next piece of history that exists shows the car being sold in Dallas, Texas, by a James A. Robinson (Marjorie A.) to a Peter J. Peterson on July 17, 1978. Peter Peterson resided at 13938 Peyton Drive, Dallas, Texas 75240. How the vehicle got from California to Dallas is not known nor do I know when the Burgess’s sold it to the Robinson’s. There could have been other owners, however, from what Peter Peterson told me this was unlikely. - - - - - - Peter Peterson moved to Colorado and took the Bird with him. The Colorado registration shows the car being registered on February 3, 1981. Pete was in the IT Consulting industry and came from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. This is where I came to know of him. - - - - - - In 1987 Pete found himself wanting to return to the Milwaukee, WI are and needed a consulting contract to support him while he was in Milwaukee caring for his Mother. Being in the IT consulting business, Pete and I connected again. - - - - - - We purchased the car from Peter Peterson August 11, 1986. Pete drove the car from Colorado to Milwaukee. The car had over 136,000 miles and was “an original in good condition”. However, the car’s paint was faded and the 390 was getting a little tired but still quite serviceable. Over the years the car has been restored with one exception. The interior is still in very good original condition. The drive train and most of the suspension has been restored. The car was refinished in the factory color using acrylic lacquer. =========== The Tobin’s Thunderbird is Castillian Gold (I) with gold vinyl interior (58). Their Thunderbird has a scheduled production date of January 25, 1963 (25A) and was ordered by a Ford dealer residing in the Los Angeles, California District Sales Office Region (71).
