This is a 1963 Thunderbird Landau. It is Raven Black (A) with a beige vinyl interior (54). It was scheduled for production on October 20, 1962 (20K) and ordered through the Seattle, Washington District Sales Office (74). It has a 3.00:1 rear axle ratio (1) and Cruise-O-Matic transmission (4). This Thunderbird was documented by George Gill in 1995. UPDATE December 2020, Garrett Downing notified the Registry that he owns this Thunderbird. He says his grandfather bought it new at West Side Ford in Seattle, Washington. It later became his father's car, finally bequeathed to Garrett in 2014. Garret also adds this story: My grandpa bought the car new in March of 1963. In 1967 the car was driven up the Al-Can Highway to Haines Alaska, then ferried to Anchorage where it lived for 19 years. When my grandparents arrived in Anchorage the car needed a quart of oil and an alignment job thanks to the gravel roads in Canada. The car has always been garaged, hand washed and waxed. It’s on its third set of tires since new, and the original 8X14 Goodyear spare is in the trunk. The vinyl top and interior are original, and aside from from repainting the sides in 1980 to fix all of the door dings the upper paint and chrome are factory original as is the license plate issued to the car in 1963.
My dad owned the car from 1995 till his passing in 2014. It then came to me. As a kid growing up on BatMan, I always thought the Bird looked like the Bat-mobile. And wanted to drive and own it one day. My first drive came at the age of 15, and my love for the car grew. One day it will belong to one of my sons, with the promise that it stay in the family.
