Dale Ulkins says: The car was bought new by my father-in-law Gene Kovacs in 1966 from a Ford dealer in Coudersport, PA. My wife Kathy, took her driver's test in the car in 1967. In fact, Kathy and I were already dating during that time. Kathy and I often drove together in the car during our high school years. We are both now 58 years old.
In 2002, Gene Kovacs trailered the T-Bird, which has been stored since 1972, to Baton Rouge, LA, as a gift to his daughter, my wife, Kathy. In 2003, our daughter Sarah took her driver's test in this same T Bird as her mother did 36 years earlier. How's that for a unique story?<p> Our T Bird currently has 66,700 miles on it. Since the car was new, there's been a borrowed part on it. The left valve cover has always sported a Lincoln emblem stating 4V 462. I figured the Michigan plant must have raided the Lincoln parts bin during our T Bird's 390 c.i. engine assembly! Ever heard of any others with Lincoln parts? Mr. Gene Kovacs, the original owner, died this month in Pennsylvania at age 89. His car is even more special to us now. His engraved name plate will always reside below the radio, where he placed it in 1966. Registrar's Note: The color Q is Brittany Blue and yes this Thunderbird does have a black interior. This is the first example we know about of a Thunderbird of this vintage being medium blue with a black interior. Q/26 was not a recommended or "also available" combination in 1966, according to period literature.
