Brian Meister says: This 1966 Thunderbird Convertible was offered for sale on eBay in April of 2003. I was the high bidder and purchased the car for $950. I figured that even if the car was junk, the original 428 was worth about $950! I drove out and brought it back from Boston to Michigan at the end of May. - - - - - - - - The seller told me the car had belonged to his father. He was not the original owner, but he drove it through most of the 70's and parked it in a garage around 1980. The car stayed parked in a garage for much of the next 20 years but it did have a stay outside for a couple of years following a divorce in the late 80s.
Much to my surprise, the car was not as bad I figured an east coast car would be. Even though the package tray and quarter panels have rust, the trunk, floor and engine compartment are solid. Plus, the car has nearly every option available except air conditioning. Sundust Beige with parchment leather is also a rare and pretty color combination so the car may be worth saving.
As of 2004, I have decided to not part out the car. I am going to do some work on the car and see if I can get it running. If I can breathe life into the car again I may try to save it.
As originally registered in April, 2003: This is a 1966 Thunderbird Convertible. It is Sundust Beige (B) with a Palomino leather interior that includes passenger recliner and head rest (L9). It was scheduled for production on October 21, 1965 (21K) and was ordered through the Boston, Massachusetts District Sales Office (11). It has a 3.00:1 rear axle ratio (1) and Cruise-O-Matic transmission. It has Highway Pilot Speed Control with Unique Steering Wheel, Safety Convenience Control Panel, power seat, power windows, and tinted glass. As of April, 2003 it was in Boston, Massachusetts.
