(former owner) Bill Strother says: My 1966 Thunderbird is a Town Landau with an Emberglo body and white top. I acquired it in 1999 from a gentleman who became overwhelmed by the need for more work than he was willing to invest. He had it for about 18 months, having pulled it out of someone's barn in Oklahoma where it had been stored for some 10 or 12 years after the original owner passed away. So that makes me owner number 3 in the vehicle ownership. The Thunderbird was built March 3, 1966 and was shipped to Gillespie Motor Company in San Antonio, Texas where it was sold with a sticker price of $5,502.43. I have copies or orginals of all paperwork including bill of sale to the first owner. The list of equipment includes the optional 428, power seat, power windows and vent windows, SelectAire Conditioner, tinted glass, reclining passenger seat with head rest, rear fender shields, deluxe wheel covers, rear deluxe seat belts, and (5) 8.15 x 15 WSW tires. The Bird presently has 117,000 miles on it and it is driven every chance I get to shows, in parades, Bird Club meetings, etc..
It is still a work in progress as the engine needs to be pulled for detailing, etc. Never seems to be a dull moment when you own a classic….. - - - - - - - - - - UPDATE September 2015 it is for sale in Fort Worth, Texas along with RN 59450. (picture added) UPDATE March 2016, Big Block notified the Registry that he owns this Thunderbird and it now resides in France. He says: In December 2015 the Tbird has been bought by a dealer from the Netherlands and that’s where I found it. Still in running condition and very straight and mostly rust free.
So I checked the Bird the very day it was built, 3rd of March, exactly 50 years after it was born in Wixom.
Now she sits in my ground awaiting the title and registration going on.She has some rust issiues at the rear pillar and the Vinyl roof is almost gone. So I´m going to paint the roof since I like it a lot more this way. So the Beauty found a home in France owned by a German
I will post some pics after we cruised the Riviera in the summer….
Like to get more Information by the previous owner/s if there is any way
