Alan Miller says:Hello,
I have owned this car for four years now. I bought it off of one of my old neighbors. He owned the car for about 7 or 8 years. He found it walking through a junkyard in upper Pennsylvania and bought it for $2000. The car was in good shape and still is. I guess the story behind it was, the owner of the junkyard was starting to restore it. But, he had a stroke and the wife put it in the yard. - - - - So, I bought this car from my neighbor for $4000. The only thing I did to it at first was put some new tires on it. The thing ran good. I hate to say this was an original car, but it was close. The original engine ran good for a while but the block cracked on me one day and I had Jasper build me a new one. The block has codes on it like a Ford block from around that time but I can't find the date code. The heads, crank , intake and exhaust manifolds are still the originals; transmission , axle (still have all their tags) , interior: (rip on divers seat and cracked door handles in the usual spot) , exhaust (FoMoCo stamps with 66 on them , welded system, 3/4 of it still on today.) and on and on. But , the car was repainted , vinyl missing (but some of the original top is still stuck under the side rails , because when someone painted the car , they just cut around everything with a razor blade). Also, The guy I bought it from didn't really care about this car. He was driving it around with the carb leaking gas. And of course , it torched the engine compartment. The california emission hoses , air conditioning and vacuum lines all burned up. I plan to start ripping the car apart soon. I'm going to rebuild the suspenion soon and just go on from there. I got lucky , the car didn't cost me that much and it started off in pretty good shape. - - - - - - - - - Oh, I forgot to tell you that , I found some original California emission hoses from John Draxler at the Thunderbird Ranch and some other under hood stuff too. So , now I have the complete emissions system for a 428. How this car ended up over on this side of the country is a mystery.......but I'm glad it did.- - - - - - - Bob Keefer reports that he saw this Thunderbird at a car show in Nazareth, Pennsylvania in July, 2004.
