This is a 1967 Thunderbird Apollo Hardtop. The Apollo editions were created for the Abercrombie & Fitch company to display at their upscale sporting goods displays. These special edition Thunderbirds were fitted with special luxury features and had a $15,000 price tag. There were 5 Apollo Hardtops produced, with consecutive VINs of 7Y81Q122570, 7Y81Q122571, 7Y81Z122572, 7Y81Q122573 and 7Y81Q122574. Aside from the 390 cubic inch V-8 being installed in "122572", the cars were identical when their conversions were completed. - - - - - Special Apollo exterior features included a metallic blue vinyl roof (note that these cars are Hardtop, not Landau models), an electric sun roof, quartz iodine driving lights, gold-covered landau bars, side marker lights, chromed door jambs, blue-chromed wheel covers, and a gold-toned Thunderbird insignia on the grille. They were painted in a special Apollo Metallic Blue paint. Interior features included a Philco television, dial telephone, reclining passenger seat with power head rest and foot rest, a special console, and adjustable rear seat reading lamps. Each front seat back had an adjustable conference table that folded down. The interior had a special blue leather trim and blue cut-pile carpeting. The Thunderbird Apollos also had a Rover automatic ice detector. - - - - - Each car was scheduled for production on November 4, 1966. RN 5409 was actually produced on October 31, 1966 and sent to Dearborn Steel Tubing for its custom conversion into an Apollo for the Abercrombie & Fitch store. It was sold to Paterno Estates, 50 Main Street, Mount Kisco, New York 10549 on December 4, 1966. The present status of RN 5409 is unknown.
