William Holhut says: I just completed restoring this 1967 Thunderbird Landau that has 71,000 original miles. The car was originally purchased as a surprise gift for Mrs. Chitosi Itano who I was told was Mr. Itano's "new wife". The car was originally titled to Itano Farms Inc., a Idaho Ranch and delivered to Burke Hudelson Ford, Nampa, ID. The car passed through two owners before I spotted it on the Internet in 2008.
I didn't do a body off restoration but came close. It won't qualify as a survivor because I have made several modifications including blasting off the factory undercoating and painting the underside black. The clock now has a quartz conversion, the AM radio converted to AM/FM, 5 speaker system instead of 3, wire wheels and white wall tires, 100 amp single wire alternator, electronic ignition, Holley 670 cfm carburetor with electric choke, driver and passenger power seats, vacuum trunk release and upholstered trunk with hatch door for storing polishing stuff. The interior is almost original except I replaced the carpet, seat foam and headliner material. The 428 ci engine was completely rebuilt, transmission rebuilt, new rotors and brakes, rebuilt starter, rebuilt power steering pump, rebuilt water pump, new belts, re-cored radiator and heater, rebuilt AC clutch, new brake booster and master cylinder, re chromed bumpers and had aluminum trim de-anodized and polished, polished the stainless trim and replaced all glass except the rear window. Much more was done but you get the idea nothing was left untouched in the 2-1/2 year restoration. This car has the rolling door lock feature that Ford discontinued mid model year. It also has power windows & locks, overhead center console with low fuel warning, door ajar, brake and seat belt warning, The original AC works well although I rebuilt the heater core because that item failed on a '67 I owned in the early 70's. It is a close to new as I could get it!
