Ross Jardine says: This 1968 4 door Thunderbird belonged to a retired judge. It was found stored & covered since 1978, not a dent or scratch with 86,000 verified miles. The owner, 89 years young would not give up his wheels. Not driven regularly, but sporadically maintained for the last 20 years his daughter talked him into an assisted living community. The garage door was opened for an estate sale and under all the clutter was some kind of a car. Being nosy, I wanted to see what kind of car was under that cover. We took the cover off and found a dust covered, Presidential blue with a black alligator vinal top. 1968 Thunderbird. All the tires were flat. I was told by the daughter, "My father purchased this car brand new for my mother in 1968". She passed away in 1975, and the car has been here since. It was maintained, all the documentation was in order and in the trunk. I asked how much she wanted for the car. " I am going to donate it to some organization for some tax relief ", was her reply. We quickly agreed on a more than reasonable price and it was "SOLD!" "You need to move this car by Monday".
From Minnesota, MN to SFO, CA… 2 friends and I, a box of tools, jumper cables, a gallon of fresh gas and 4 hours later she started right up. I had contacted an auto transportation outfit & contracted them to transport my “Blue Bird” home to SF, CA. Upon arrival… Only a few of the power options worked, new window motors & switches, light bulbs, trunk drains turn signal switch. The first to go out was the heater core, radiator and hoses. Then the brakes, new master cylinder rotors, calipers, lining & pads, shocks too. The transmission was slipping, with a fluid change & filter, some band adjusting it was in motion. The power steering hoses, being rubber were rotten and badly needed replacing also. I have all the power options working now. The car is now road worthy, thanks to Stefan at T-Birds Inc., The T-Bird Sanctuary and all those folks that sell on line at E-Bay. I have put Kelsey Hayes wire wheels on it, Flow Master muffler & exhaust and must admit.... It sure does get the looks. This is my 1st Second car that I plan to keep restoring as needed, until my kids take my keys, or put me in a home. - - - - - - - - It has tinted glass, SelectAire Conditioner, power windows, and Tilt-Away Steering Wheel. As of April, 2003 it was in St. Paul, Minnesota.
