1981-2005 VIN explanations

1967 is the last year that a Thunderbird VIN is stamped to the body. It is located on a metal tab that extends at a 90-degree angle from the firewall, passenger side. The Warranty Plate is located on the driver's door lock face.

1968 and later Thunderbirds have the VIN stamped to a metal tab under the windshield. The Warranty Plate (1968 and 1969) or the Vehicle Information sticker (1970 and later) is on the driver's door or the body pillar which meets the driver's door lock face.

1955, 1956, and 1957 Thunderbird vehicle identification numbers (VIN) are located on the Patent Plate on the firewall, passenger side. The VIN is also stamped on the frame.

1958: Position D 1959 (early): Position D and E 1959 (late) Position C and E 1960: Position A and B

The Patent Plate is located on the driver's side door pillar post between the door hinges.


1961-1962-1963 Thunderbird VIN locations

The VIN is stamped in all three places on all 1961, 1962, and 1963 Thunderbirds.

The 1961 and 1962 Patent Plates are located on the driver's side door pillar post between the hinges. The 1963 Warranty Plate is located on the driver's door lock face. The Patent Plate was replaced by the Warranty Plate in 1963.


1964-1965-1966 Thunderbird VIN locations

The VIN is stamped in all three places on all 1964, 1965, and 1966 Thunderbirds.
